Just heard the sad news today from Nick Arnold. Rest in Peace, Dear YK. You'll be missed. Triawan Munaf, Jakarta. |
I had the great honour of knowing YK. He was instrumental in helping complete the acquisition of our firm (based in Hyderabad, India) by Ogilvy. In the the months leading up-to the acquisition, YK was always helpful, shared his wisdom and thought us many things. On our visits to Singapore, he would take us out for lunch and always offered "chilly crabs" which he quoted as one of his favorite Singaporean dishes.
There are very few times when you come across total strangers in your life and in the few hours that you spend with them, they have an impact on the rest of your life. YK was one such rare gem of an individual. We are blessed to have met him and learnt from him. We will always remember you fondly. Anand Morzaria and all at Ogilvy PennyWise |
My thoughts are with YK's family and friends at this time.
Sincere condolences.
Wishing you strength and positivity at this difficult time.
Paul Paul Davies |
My deepest condolences to YK's family. In the brief period of interaction I had with YK, I was always impressed with his humbleness and wisdom. Am sadden to hear about this, but will always remember you as someone always willing to listen and give good advice. Alrick Dorett, TBWA |

We will always miss the unique YK. We will miss his energy, commitment, dedication, hard-work, loyalty and cheerfulness. A wonderful colleague, husband, father and example to all of us. He remains an inspiration. Martin SORRELL and all at WPP |
Dear Joyce, Charles and Andrew,
I speak from experience and can truly comprehend what you are going through. When I was at the funeral yesterday, it brought back memories of my own loss albeit it has been many years. My late hubby died at age 40 leaving me with 2 young daughters 4+ and 7+.
The most difficult time sets in now once the cremation is over because you can no longer see his body there seems to be a huge vacuum anguish and tears just flow like the ocean.
We are not the same person and also sad angry moments of “Why has this happened to me”? Then we have moments of “I cannot cope with this”. However we have no choice. The situation is real and we have to cope for our own sanity and for our families’ sakes. Most of us also do it for our loved one’s sake. Coming to terms with accepting this lonely pathway is part of the healing process.
Eventually we will be stronger, able to face our new situation with more confidence.
Grieve yes. Cry yes. But remember the many happy years you had together with YK.
Feel proud that YK was a well-respected and well-loved man. Death may leaves a heartache no one can heal but live in the loving memory of YK.
A memory no one can steal.
My love and thoughts are with your family at this very difficult time. Please take care. Janet De Roza - H+K Strategies APac |
Dearest YK,
May you rest in peace. You were the epitome of the WPPer in all the time that I knew you. Loyal, dedicated and always keen to listen to the hum of disruption that impacted our business. I truly enjoyed the time you afforded me and for your counsel when I moved to Singapore to build a team.
Sincerest condolences to your family. James Hudson |
YK, we finally said goodbye today. You’ve been my partner in crime for 10 years and the legacy you have left at WPP is nothing short of incredible. You were my friend, my mentor, my cultural consultant, my teacher, my karaoke backup singer and so many other things. I hope you realise how much you meant to me, to your family, your friends and your colleagues, I wish I had told you more often how grateful I was for our friendship and all the wisdom you shared with me. Rest in peace my friend, we will look after Joyce, Andrew and Charles. Miss you. Scott Spirit |
It's regrettable not knowing you for all I saw was an empty seat when I went to the office two Fridays ago. May you rest in eternal peace, YK. Sincere condolences to your family. Cecilia Wong |
YK-san
We were all shocked to hear the news of your sudden departure.
It was indeed so sudden that we found very difficult to accept it.
You were always very helpful and supportive of ADK, having given us lots of valuable and practical advice.
We had a lot of learning from your expertise, for which we are truly thankful.
Let us join all your family and friends in praying that your soul may rest in peace. H. Morita, M. Sasaki and T. Migiyama (Investment Management Department,ADK, Inc., Tokyo) |
I had the great honor of working with and learning from YK over the last 13 years. I will always be grateful for his wisdom, guidance and support. He was a gentleman and I will miss him. My deepest condolences to your Family. Rest in peace YK. Tony Dowling |
Hi YK. This is the saddest surprize for me. We only met in business occassions, but I knew you were a man of universarity, with a warm heart and open-mindness for all. I always respect your professionalism, but more than that, the gentle heart to help anybody.Your hearts will stay with us forever. Ken Omori (ADK Tokyo/Shanghai) |
My deepest condolences to YK's family, friends, and colleagues. Roshan Bharwaney |
Bro, Dad and Mum love you a lot and know that you had been a good Son. Just to let you know, we found out yesterday that Dad is not as senile as we had thought. When 2nd Bro asked Dad if he remembers Yee Kong, his first words were "What's wrong with Yee Kong?" Then 2nd Bro told him you had passed away. A tear rolled down his eyes, he closed his eyes and kept swallowing saliva. I sensed that despite the strong and tough character we once knew him to be, he could not take the blow. I immediately interjected and told him that you are sick and is in hospital. We couldn't bear to bring him to see you anymore and left him with Anna at home. Anna said that Dad who had hardly spoken a word for the last few years kept telling her to call a taxi and bring her to the hospital. Bro, Dad loves you in his quiet ways. Mum loves you a lot too and has never failed to pray everyday for your good health and safety all these years. Bro, parental love is incomparable. Mum and Dad love all their children equally but mum may be more bossy and nagging to those who are more tolerant and giving because we have spoiled her for so many years but she had changed a lot in the last 2 years. Bro, you are Mum and Dad's most capable and successful child and have provided well for them for many years. Thank you. They know that you are a good Son. Mum is very proud of your achievements as evidenced by the eulogies heaping praises of your achievements in every manner.
Rest in peace, Bro. We will look after Mum and Dad. Leong Sau Lai |
Dearest YK, 非常遗憾不能赶回来送你一程,能够与您相识共事是我们的荣幸,感谢您这么多年在工作上对我、我的男友以及我们公司的照顾。愿您在另一个世界平安喜乐,一路走好。 Judy Zhang |
Dearest YK, I just want to say that it has been an honour knowing you and working beside you. I will always remember all the experiences you shared with me. You never failed to make time to explain and guide me. Above all, thank you for having confidence in me and inspiring me. Christina Cheang |
Dearest Joyce, Charles, Andrew and Cherlyn, my deepest sympathy and condolences on your demise of your beloved husband, father and god-father. He's legacy and memories will always be remember. God Bless. 🙏🙏🙏 Stanley Roy Williams |
Dearest YK
There is not a moment last few days that we aren't thinking of you. It was an honor for us to know you. Also from the last few days we've learned and listened to all these wonderful stories about how you'd inspired and touched so many of our lives. We were very fortunate to be one of them. You've inspired us to do well with you business acumen, the diligent and the incredibly real and sincere person you were. I will never forget the places you'd taken to eat. Allow us to reach out to Joyce, Charles and Andrew. We are so grateful to have you in our hearts. Rest in peace.
Win & Jo Josephine |
YK, look around…. your friends are all here .. they’ve come from all over the world to honor you… to honor a life that we can only aspire to have.. it is not for the material riches that you posses, not for the corporate success that you have achieved… but simply for a life that has touched so many of us.
I am so grateful that you have been in my life… your wisdom.. advice.. guidance or sometimes simply your indifference to an issue guided me.. At work you are the go-to Sage that I would go to for advice where you will dispense with fairness and objectivity.. your relentless energy, passion and perseverance to get the deal through has taught me that nothing is impossible when you have a good argument… and argue you did even in the most impossible situations, which in the end brought admiration from your counterparts. You took the time and bother to learn about not just the businesses you bought but also the people behind the businesses.. and you have the unique gift to make many of these people your lifelong friends.. I'm one of them..
Outside of work, you never fail to remind me to take time to love my family and my health… I wished you had heeded some of your own advice on your health… You were that kind and gentle man that would make the effort to remember all the little things.. I could go on and on sharing all the little anecdotes.. but I just want to say that my wife Tina and I together with our 3 daughters are so fortunate to have been blessed with your love and Joyce’s love.
I am just heart-broken and devastated that my 3 young girls who love you so dearly will no longer have Uncle YK come by anymore.
It gives me some comfort to know that you had gone on a really memorable family trip to Europe just weeks ago… You were so happy that you kept sending me pictures of Charles’s graduation, telling me how proud you are… you even told me that you had bought my girls Mickey Mouse hats in Disney Paris that sadly you did not get a chance to give them..
Even in your passing you are reminding us of a lesson.. that in the end its not about one’s material riches or wealth.. it is simply the countless lives that you have touched.. and countless lives that you have changed.. and for that you are beyond wealthy..
Don’t worry about your family.. We will all be here for them..
Charles, Andrew, Cherlyn, Pearl and my Dearest Joyce.. YK大哥 is an amazing man that I am so grateful that he has been a part of my life.. I hope that it gives you some comfort and immense pride to know that he has made a difference in so many lives… many of whom are here..
Have a peaceful journey my friend, my brother.. it was a life well lived, a life that will forever continue to live in the hearts of my family.... I will forever miss your generosity, your wisdom, your warm smile.. and most of all… your simple reassuring presence… thank you, we love you and goodbye my dear YK… Tse |
YK, in the unfortunate and regretful short time that we knew each other and started working together, you made a speedy connection and brought me into your world. You are the kind of person that is able to inspire people for greater good and able to connect with people with your wisdom, fairness and sincerity. You are not afraid to share your many sides with people so that they likewise will be as open with you. Your values, work-ethnics and professionalism is contagious. You like to remind us that we should always be reasonable, transparent and fair in the way we do things, as this will go a long way to building a sustainable long-term relationship. You do not just assess people whether they are smart, capable or experienced, you also look at their attitude and that attitude is what that really shape a person in the long haul. You can’t imagine how shock I am when I received the sad news while still overseas. I have come back to see you, my friend, my mentor, my colleague and my boss. Rest in peace, I am sure your values will be well carried by your capable sons, Charles and Andrew. Your love will live on in Joyce. Darrien Ong |
YK,愿你在另一个国度生活安好,一路走好。 Vanilla Wang |
Rest in peace :( Chak |
Hi YK. This is the third time i tried to write this. I failed the past two times because my mind is clouded with images of us working on valuations, teleconferencing with prospects, flying to see them, chatting over drinks, me encouraging you to take up more hobbies, you asking me to be less prudent, spend and enjoy life. Sadness wells up when i allow my thoughts to drift to the times we spent together, as colleagues, as friends. Time which i thought will be longer. You spoke of retirement in a few years to start a restaurant, which i think will bore you. We toyed with the idea of you joining my firm as a M&A consultant as a super discounted friendship price (coz i could not offer WPP's rate). Will miss our whatsapp messages of jokes and greetings. Will miss the sudden urgent calls to discuss technical issues. Will miss the lunches to catch up. Will miss you. Edwin Lim |
I am deeply saddened by the news of Mr YK death. He was such a wonderful person to work for. Everyone in the office will miss him. He was always giving compliments to his staff. He made sure we knew we were appreciated and we are truly going to miss him. He always tells me that he likes my cheerful attitude.
I remember the time I stayed late to work - he told me not to say long and go back to be with family which showed that he really care for his staff
I was inspired by his humble , kind attitude, wisdom, and commitment. Boss you are really special! I am going to miss you in office. RIP Boss
Joyce, Charles & Andrew - Please accept my sincere condolences. Porche |
I am terribly shocked. I engaged with him so many times. He was such a helpful person and a great professional. So sorry for his family. Wish it was different. May God Bless the family in this sad time. Prema Sagar |
Dear YK, I never expected to say goodbye to you so soon, you just leave like that, leave sadness and shock behind. Time may fly, tear may dry, but a special friend will always in my heart. May you have a happy life in heaven. Crystal Wang |
So shocked to hear this sad news and totally can't accept the fact that you leave us as such. YK, during last 15 years, you taught me lots of knowledge about business / financial/ management and also inspired me on how to become better in life and work. YK, rest in peace and our thoughts are always with you and your family. Feiyan Shen |
My deepest and sincere appreciation to all family members, relative, friends and colleague of YK in WPP group for attending the wake and memorial service yesterday.
I am deeply touch by the sincerity, trust and respect given to him from people all over the world.
Let us pray for him and his family as he walk his final journey on earth.
Yee Kong, you are a Great man.
RIP my dearest Brother. Leong Yee Khan |

I do hope your family and WPP stay strong at this moment.
I would like send to all friends in Always and WPP our sympathy of their lost.
Rest in Peace, brother YK. Trung Vo |
Dear Uncle Leong, it was my honour to meet you on the Graduation Day of your eldest son, but truly sad that it was the first and only time we met. You were a husband with care and a father with smiles and pride. Your life was so happy and completed with your family and all the joyful memory. I hope you had enjoyed your fulfilled life and now resting in the arms of God. May you rest in peace. 願您安心上路。 Paul Wong |
Sorry to hear that today. I am a friend of Charles in Manchester. I heard Charles talked about you a lot and feel regretted that I didn't see you once in Manchester. Charles mentioned you a lot in our conversation. I could see that Charles really thanks for your advises, ideas and helps. As he said, in his life, you are not only his father, but a friend and a teacher. I think one a day you can be proud of him. 愿叔叔一路安好。 Kennyan Zhong |

My dearest Uncle was a noble father, loving husband and caring family man. Regardless to my grandparents, my uncles and aunts or my cousins, he never fail to inspire, to care for us or to mentor us with his experience. Although I never took the path he tried to offer me, I always appreciate that he cared and tried. He is a wise and ambitious person but no matter how much he worked, he cared most about family. He will be deeply missed and remembered in our hearts forever. Grace |

Dearest Joyce , y k and family ,
I have only gotten to know you and your family in the last year through Tl and Tina and later through my sister janice . They all speak of your kindness and generosity and I too have come to experience Joyce and your true self and seen how well you have both brought the 2 sons up to be both gentleman , scholars and good sportsmen. I am honoured to have been able to walk and battle with you in your last battle . You have fought hard and i am so proud of your efforts . You are in a better place , at peace and am sure you are smiling at our silly ways . You will be surely missed by many , but you have left a profound legacy in all our hearts , and continue to inspire each and every one of us in our respective ways . You deserve the rest , keep smiling and till all our paths cross again . God bless you and your family .

Words cannot express the pain I feel. My selfless loving and inspiring Uncle YK you played such a big part in molding me to be who I am today. You were always so stern and strict with us while we were growing up Charles Andrew and I. But at the same time whenever we do right or achieve each milestone in life your quiet smile and undying support to make sure we get due credit for our hard work is the most encouraging gesture any Uncle or Father can give. You and Aunty Joyce has been such a pillar for me since I was a little girl. You have not given me enough time to do enough to return the favor. You left too soon my dearest Uncle and I will miss you dearly! With Love Pearl |
Pleasure to know you and work with you YK. Please rest well. My sincere condolences and prayers to all your family and friends Mark Patterson |
Bro I just read a message from you to me reassuring me that there are no differences between us. You advised me to start living life for myself and for my family and I said yup I wish you well too and take good care of yourself because I am forever your Sister. In one message I said Bro happy birthday and I wish you many more happy birthdays to come. We have so much unfinished conversations between us. How could you bear to leave all of us? It is so painful. Leong Sau Lai |
YK we have yet to go back to ECP Stella restaurant to check out the Chocolate Molten lava cake. You have been my good buddy on FB and we enjoyed teasing each other. My dearest bro your vigorous voice of Scott! My brother! still echoes in my ears and how sad I can't hear it any more. We have worked together travelled sung songs dined debated laughed… we have created and shared so many wonderful moments together and those memories will always be in my heart and mind. Rest well my best friend my dearest brother and may your heart and soul find peace and comfort. YK! My brother! Scott Rhee |
Bro siblings are forever. It hurts when sometimes we have disagreements due to differences in perspectives. You remember sometimes we avoid differences by agreeing to disagree because siblings are bonded by blood and nothing can change that simple truth. I still have my last WhatsApp message to you months ago. I said sorry and told you not to be angry because anger is bad for your health and I told you siblings should not quarrel. Love you Bro. Pray that you find peace and comfort in eternity. I'll see you one day. Leong Sau Lai |

no amount of words can express the pain that we are currently feeling now that you are no longer by our side. I miss you so much all the happy memories that we have created together all the advice and guidance that you have showered me with throughout the years. I'm so lucky so blessed and thankful to have you as my Godpa. We love you always and forever. From this moment on you live in our hearts. Thank You for everything. I miss you and I love you.
